67. Al-Mulk

67.1 Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas (رضي الله عنه)

“One of the companions of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) pitched a tent on a grave without knowing that it was a grave. Suddenly he heard a person from the grave reciting Surah al-Mulk till he completed it. So he went to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) and said: ‘Oh Messenger of Allah, I pitched my tent on a grave without realizing that is was a grave. Then suddenly I heard a person from the grave reciting Surah al-Mulk till he completed it.’ The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) said: ‘It is the defender, it is the deliverer – it delivers from the punishment of the grave.'”

I heard the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) saying, “There is a Surah in the Qur’an which contains thirty Ayat which kept interceding for a man until his sins are forgiven. This Surah is ‘Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion.’ (Surah 67).”

To me from Malik from Ibn Shihab that Humayd ibn Abd ar-Rahman ibn Awf had told him that Surat al-Ikhlas (Surah 112) was equal to a third of the Qur’an, and that Surat al-Mulk (Surah 67) pleaded for its owner.

The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) did not sleep until he had recited, ‘Alif-Lam-Mim. The Sending-down’ (Surah 32) and ‘Blessed is the One in whose hand the kingdom is’ (Surah 67).'”
