43. Az-Zukhruf
43.1 Abdul-Wahid bin sulaim (رضي الله عنه) narrated
“I arrived in Makkah and met ‘Ata bin Abi Rabab. I said to him: ‘O Abu Muhammad! The people of Al-Basrah speak about Al-Qadar.’ He said: ‘O my son! Do you recite the Quran?’ I said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘Then recite Az-Zukhruf to me.'” He said: ‘So I recited: Ha Mim. By the manifest Book, Verily, We have made it a Quran in Arabic that you may be able to understand. And verily, it is in the Mother of Book with Us, indeed exalted, full of wisdom. Then he said: ‘Do you know what Mother of Books is?’ I said: ‘Allah and His Messenger know better.’ He said:’It is a book that Allah wrote before He created the Heavens, and before He created the earth. In it, it is (written): Fir’awn is among the inhabitants of the Fire, and in it is: Perish the two hands of Abu Lahab, and perish he!’Ata said: ‘I met Al-Walid the son of Ubadah bin As-samit the Companion of the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) and asked him:’What was your father’s admonition when he died?” He said:”He called me and said: ‘O my son ! Have Taqwa of Allah, and know that you will never have Taqwa of Allah until you believe in Allah, and you believe in Al-Qadar-all of it-its good and its bad. If you die upon other than this you shall enter the Fire. Indeed I heard the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) saying: “Verily the first of what Allah created was the Pen. So He said: ‘Write Al-Qadar, what it is , and what shall be, until the end.'”

43.2 Ali ibn Rabiah (رضي الله عنه) says
I was present when a conveyance (A horse or something) was brought to Hazrat Ali (رضي الله عنه) (in the period of his khilafah). He recited Bismillah and put his leg in the stirrup. After he had mounted he said Alhamdulillah and recited this dua:
سبحان الذي سخر لنا هذا وما كنا له مقرنين ﴿
﴾ وإنا إلى ربنا لمنقلبون
Glorified be He Who hath sudued those unto us, and we were not capable (Of subduing them); And lo! Unto our Lord we are returning. (43:13-14)
(The ulama say that a conveyance could be a means of death. Therefore subjugation of a conveyance with gratitude towards Allah for His Mercy, and death are mentioned together. After all a person has to return to Allah after death). Ali (رضي الله عنه) then said Alhamdulillah three times, Allahu Akbar three times, then recited:
سبحانك إني ظلمت نفسي فاغفر لي فإنه لا يغفر الذنوب إلا أنت
Glorified be Thou! Behold, I have wronged myself. So forgive thou me. Indeed, non forgiveth sins but Thou.
Then [Sayyidina Ali (رضي الله عنه)] laughed (smiled). I said to him, “What is the reason for laughing, O Ameerul Mumineen?” He replied, “Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) also recited these duas in this manner and thereafter laughed (smiled). I also inquired from Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) the reason for laughing (smiling) as you have asked me. Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) said, “Allah Ta’ala becomes happy when His servants say, ‘No one can forgive me save You.’ My servant knows that no one forgives sins besides me.

43.3 Narrated Abu Umamah (رضي الله عنه)
That the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) said: “No people go astray after having been guided, but they resort to arguing.” Then the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) recited this Ayah:
﴾ ما ضربوه لك إلا جدلا بل هم قوم خصمون ﴿
‘…They quoted not the above example except for argument. Nay! But they are quarrelsome people… (43:58)’
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Vol. 5, Book 44, Hadith 3253
43.4 Narrated Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه)
That the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) said: “A caller will call out: ‘You shall have life and never die; you shall be healthy and never be ill; you shall be young and never grow old; you shall live in favor and never suffer difficult circumstances.’ That is the saying of Allah Most High:
﴾ وتلك الجنة التي أورثتموها بما كنتم تعملون ﴿
This is Paradise, which you have been made to inherit because of your deeds that you used to do (43:72).”
