64. At-Taghabun
64.1 Imam Ibn Hibban in Ad-Duafa’, Tabrani, Ibn Mardawih and Ibn ‘Asakir (رحمهم الله)
narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Umru (رضي الله عنه) that
The Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) said, “No child is born but the first five verses of Surah At-Taghabun are written on the net of his head.”
(Majma az-Zawaid 7/20, Dur al-Manthur)
64.2 Narrated ‘Irbad bin Sariyah (رضي الله عنه)
That the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) would recite the Musabbihat* (Chapters 17, 57, 59, 61, 62, 64 & 87) before sleep and say “Indeed there is an Ayah in them that is better than one thousand Aayat.”
*Quran Surahs that begin with the glorification of Allah

64.3 Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه) said about
﴾ يوم التغابن ﴿
The Day of Deprivation (64:9)
that Yawmu at-Taghabun is one of the names of the Day of Judgement.
(Tafsir Tabari, Dur al-Manthur)
64.4 Mujahid (رحمه الله) said that
﴾ ذلك يوم التغابن ﴿
That is the Day of Deprivation (64:9)
refers to the dominance of the people of paradise over to the people of hell.
(Musnaf Abi Shaybah, Dur al-Manthur)
64.5 Narrated Aisha (رضي الله عنها)
When the believers will be resurrected from their graves, their slogan on that day will be
﴾ الله لا إله إلا هو وعلى الله فليتوكل المؤمنون ﴿
Allah – there is no deity except Him. And upon Allah let the believers rely. (64:13)
(Dur al-Manthur)
64.6 Ikrimah (رضي الله عنه) narrated that
Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه) was asked by a man about this Ayah:
﴾ يا أيها الذين آمنوا إن من أزواجكم وأولادكم عدوّا لكم فاحذروهم ﴿
O you who believe! Verity, among your wives and your children there are enemies for you; therefore beware of them! (64:14)
He said: “These are men who submitted (to Islam) in Makkah, and they wanted to come to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) but their wives and children refused to allow them to come to the Messenger of Allah. So when they came to the Messenger of Allah, they saw that the people had gained such understanding in the religion that they wanted to punish them (their families). So Allah revealed the Ayah: O you who believe! Verily, among your wives and your children there are enemies for you; therefore beware of them!”

64.7 Narrated Buraidah (رضي الله عنه)
“The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) was delivering a Khutbah to us when Al-Hasan and Al-Husain (عليهم السلام) came, wearing red shirts, walking and falling down. So the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) descended from the Minbar and carried them, and placed them in front of him. Then he said: ‘Allah spoke the Truth:
﴾ إنما أموالكم وأولادكم فتنة ﴿
Indeed, your wealth and your children are a trial (64:15).
I looked at these two children walking and falling down, and I could not bear patiently anymore until I interrupted my talk and picked them up.”

64.8 Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) narrated
That Allah will Say, “I asked for a loan from My slave, but he denied. My slave uttered inappropriate words regarding Me. And he does not know when he says ‘Woe to time (al-Dahr)’ for I am the time. Then Abu Hurairah recited
﴾ إن تقرضوا الله قرضا حسنا يضاعفه لكم ويغفر لكم والله شكور حليم ﴿
If you loan Allah a goodly loan, He will multiply it for you and forgive you. And Allah is Most Appreciative and Forbearing. (64:17)
(Mustadrak Hakim, Dur al-Manthur)
64.9 Abu Hibban (رحمه الله) said
His father’s Shaykh heard a needy person saying ‘who will give Allah Qaradan Hasana (a goodly loan, 64:17)’, so he said proclaiming
سبحان اللہ والحمد للہ ولا إلہ إلا اللہ واللہ أکبر
Glorified is Allah and all praise is for Allah and there is no god except Allah and Allah is the greatest.
is (also a) goodly loan.

64.10 Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (عليه السلام) has been reported to have said
That if a person recites Surah At-Taghabun in the Fara’idh (compulsory prayers) then on the Day of Judgement this Surah itself will intercede on his behalf until he is allowed to enter Jannah. It is also narrated that one who recites this Surah will be protected from the tyranny of the rulers.

64.11 Allama Alam Faqri (رحمه الله) writes
(i) It is reported in Kitab al-Amal that Hazrat Ubay ibn Ka’ab (رضي الله عنه) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) said “Whoever recites Surah At-Taghabun, he will be protected from sudden death and will have a long life.”
(ii) Surah At-Taghabun is effective against calamities and robbery.
(iii) Whoever recites it thrice daily his provisions will be blessed and remain safe from tyranny and demons.
(iv) Reading it 11 times can bring victory in lawsuit.
(v) It is also recited 3 times daily for 11 days for desired marriage or conception.
(vi) If recited 11 times after Fajr for 40 days, one will meet a Murshid-e-Kamil (Spiritual guide)
﴾ بإذن الله ﴿
64.12 Allama Alam Faqri (رحمه الله) writes
If someone desires to hold an important office or authority over people, he should recite the verse
يسبح لله ما في السماوات وما في الأرض له الملك وله الحمد وهو على كل شيء قدير
Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth is exalting Allah . To Him belongs dominion, and to Him belongs [all] praise, and He is over all things competent. (64:1)
of Surah At-Taghabun 141 times before sunset and before sunrise and make Dua to Allah for his selection. In’Sha Allah he will prevail.
If some person is lost or has been kidnapped, he should recite the verses
زعم الذين كفروا أن لن يبعثوا قل بلى وربي لتبعثن ثم لتنبؤن بما عملتم وذلك على الله يسير
Those who disbelieve have claimed that they will never be resurrected. Say, “Yes, by my Lord, you will surely be resurrected; then you will surely be informed of what you did. And that, for Allah , is easy.”
فآمنوا بالله ورسوله والنور الذي أنزلنا والله بما تعملون خبير
So believe in Allah and His Messenger and the Qur’an which We have sent down. And Allah is Acquainted with what you do.
يوم يجمعكم ليوم الجمع ذلك يوم التغابن ومن يؤمن بالله ويعمل صالحا يكفر عنه سيئاته ويدخله جنات تجري من تحتها الأنهار خالدين فيها أبدا ذلك الفوز العظيم
The Day He will assemble you for the Day of Assembly – that is the Day of Deprivation. And whoever believes in Allah and does righteousness – He will remove from him his misdeeds and admit him to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great attainment. (64:7-9)
of Surah At-Taghabun after Isha 66 times on water. The water should be sprinkled on all sides of his house from its top. Then he should make Dua to Allah in loud voice for the recovery of the lost person. In’Sha Allah the Asbab (means) to find the person will be made.
If someone has a Hajat (urgent need), he should recite the verse
الله لا إله إلا هو وعلى الله فليتوكل المؤمنون
Allah – there is no deity except Him. And upon Allah let the believers rely. (64:13)
of Surah At-Taghabun 111 times in Tahajjud. He should also write it on paper and keep it with him till the need is fulfilled.
If someone is in debt (قرض) he should recite the verses
إن تقرضوا الله قرضا حسنا يضاعفه لكم ويغفر لكم والله شكور حليم
If you loan Allah a goodly loan, He will multiply it for you and forgive you. And Allah is Most Appreciative and Forbearing.
عالم الغيب والشهادة العزيز الحكيم
Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, the Exalted in Might, the Wise. (64:17-18)
of Surah At-Taghabun 100 times after Fajr/Isha and 33 times after Zuhr/Asr/Maghrib. After Isha, he should make Dua to Allah. In’Sha Allah the Asbab (means) to pay it will be made.
