82. Al-‘Infitar
82.1 Ibn Umar (رضي الله عنه) narrated that
The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) said: “Whoever wishes to look at the Day of Resurrection, as if he is seeing it with this eye, then let him recite: ‘Itha ash-Shamsu Kuwwirat (Surah 81 At-Takwir)’ and ‘Itha as-Samao Infatarat (Surah 82 Al-‘Infitar)’ and ‘Itha as-Samao Inshaqqat (Surah 84 Al-‘Inshiqaq)’.”

82.2 It was narrated that Jabir (رضي الله عنه) said
Mu’adh (رضي الله عنه) stood up and prayed Isha’, and made it lengthy. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) said: ‘Do you want to cause hardship to the people, O Mu’adh; do you want to cause hardship to the people O Mu’adh? Why didn’t you recite ‘Sabbihi Isma Rabbika al-Aala‘ (Surah 87 Al-Aala) or Ad-Duha (Surah 93) or; ‘Itha as-Samao Infatarat (Surah 82 Al-‘Infitar)?’
82.3 Mufti Muhammad Shafi (رحمه الله) related about the Aayah
﴾ علمت نفس ما قدمت وأخرت ﴿
A soul will [then] know what it has put forth and kept back. (82:5)
That the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) is reported to have said: “If anyone establishes a good tradition in Islam, he will have a reward for it and the equivalent of the rewards of those who act upon it after him, without theirs being diminished in any respect; but he who establishes a bad custom in Islam will bear the responsibility of it and the responsibility of those who act upon it after him, without theirs being diminished in any respect.”

82.4 Imam Suyuti (رحمه الله) related about the Aayat
﴾ وإن عليكم لحافظين ﴿
And indeed, [appointed] over you are keepers,
﴾ كراما كاتبين ﴿
Noble and recording;
﴾ يعلمون ما تفعلون ﴿
They know whatever you do. (82:10-12)
Imam Bazzar (رحمه الله) narrated from Hazrat Anas (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) said, “When both the guardian angels present themselves before the court of the Lord with whatever they have written during the day and the Generous Lord sees Istighfar (penitence) on the beginning and conclusion of the scroll, He (سبحانه و تعالى) Says,
﴾ قد غفرت لعبدي ما بين طرفي الصحيفة ﴿
Whatever is between the two edges (start and end) of this scroll, I have forgiven it for My slave.

Anas bin Malik (رضي الله عنه) narrated that
The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) said: “There is nothing that the two Guardian Angels raise to Allah that they have preserved in a day or night, and Allah finds good in the beginning of the scroll and in the end of the scroll, except that Allah Most High says: ‘Bear witness that I have forgiven my servant for what is included in the scroll.'” Booklets & Articles on seeking the Forgiveness of Allah (عز وجل) |
82.5 It is narrated from Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (عليه السلام) that
The one who recites Surat Al-‘Infitar will be forgiven even if his sins are equal to the rain drops.
