79. An-Nazi`at
79.1 Ibn `Abbas (رضي الله عنه) mentioned about
﴾ والنازعات غرقا ﴿
By those [angels] who extract with violence
﴾ والناشطات نشطا ﴿
And [by] those who remove with ease (79:1-2)
That these are the angels who remove the souls from the Children of Adam (عليه السلام). Among them are those whose souls are removed by the angels with difficulty, as if he is being drowned during its removal. There are those people whose souls the angels remove with ease, as if they were unraveling him (i.e., his soul from him) due to their briskness.
(Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
79.2 Ibn Kathir related about
﴾ يوم ترجف الراجفة ﴿
On the Day the blast [of the Horn] will convulse [creation],
﴾ تتبعها الرادفة ﴿
There will follow it the subsequent [one]. (79:6-7)
That Ibn `Abbas said, “These are the two blasts (of the Trumpet) — the first and the second.” Mujahid, Al-Hasan, Qatadah, Ad-Dahhak and others have made similar statements.
(Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
79.3 Ibn Kathir related about
﴾ فإذا هم بالساهرة ﴿
And suddenly they will be [alert] upon the earth’s surface (79:14)
Ibn `Abbas (رضي الله عنه) said, “As-Sahirah means the entire earth.” Sa`id bin Jubayr, Qatadah and Abu Salih have all said this as well. `Ikrimah, Al-Hasan, Ad-Dahhak, and Ibn Zayd have all said, “As-Sahirah means the face of the earth.” Mujahid said, “They will be at its (the earth’s) lowest part, and they will be brought out to highest part.” Then he said, “As-Sahirah is a level place.”
(Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
79.4 It is narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) said
For he who studies Surah An-Nazi’at the length of his stay and his reckoning on the Day of Judgment will last as long as the saying of a daily prayer and, thereafter, he will come into Paradise.
(Majma‑al‑Bayan)
79.5 A tradition from Imam Sadiq (عليه السلام) says
He who studies Surah An-Nazi’at will not pass away but satisfied, will not be brought into the Resurrection but satisfied, and will not come into Paradise but satisfied (إن شاء الله)
(An Enlightening Commentary into the Light of the Holy Qur’an Vol. 19)
79.6 The Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) has said that
The reward for reciting this Surah An-Nazi’at is ten times the number of beings in the Heavens.
(Fawaid-e-Qur’an)
