21. Al-‘Anbya’
21.1 Narrated Musa bin Ibrahim bin Kathir Al-Ansari (رضي الله عنه)
“I heard Talhah bin Khirash say: ‘I heard Jabir bin ‘Abdullah saying: “The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) met me and said to me: ‘O Jabir! Why do I see you upset?’ I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! My father was martyred (on the Day of Uhud) leaving my family and debt behind.'” “He (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) said: ‘Shall I give you news of what your father met Allah with?'” He said: “But of course O Messenger of Allah!” He said: ‘Allah does not speak to anyone except from behind a veil, but He brought your father to speak to Him directly. He said: “[O My slave!] Do you wish that I give you anything?” He said: ‘O Lord! Give me life so that I may fight for You a second time.’ So the Lord [Blessed and Most High] said:
‘It has been decreed by Me that they shall not return (21:95).’
He said: “So this Ayah was revealed:
Think not of those as dead who are killed in the way of Allah (3:169).”
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Vol. 5, Book 44, Hadith 3010
21.2 Narrated ‘Aishah (رضي الله عنها)
That a man came and sat in front of the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) and said: “O Messenger of Allah! I have two slaves who lie to me, deceive me, and disobey me, and I scold them and hit them. So what is my case because of them?” He said: “The extent to which they betrayed you, disobeyed you and lied to you will be measured against how much you punish them. If your punishing them is equal to their sins, then the two will be the same, nothing for you and nothing against you. If your punishing them is above their sin, some of your rewards will be taken from you and given to them.” So the man left, and began weeping and crying aloud. The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) said: “You should read what Allah said in His Book:
‘And We shall set up the Balances of justice on the Day of Resurrection, then none will be dealt with unjustly in anything…’ to the rest of the Ayah (21:47).
So the man said: “By Allah, O Messenger of Allah! I see nothing better for myself, than me parting with them. Bear witness that they are all free.”
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Vol. 5, Book 44, Hadith 3165
21.3 It was narrated that ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud (رضي الله عنه) said
“On the night on which the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) was taken on the Night Journey (Isra’), he met Ibrahim, Musa and ‘Eisa, and they discussed the Hour. They started with Ibrahim, and asked him about it, but he did not have any knowledge of it. Then they asked Musa, and he did not have any knowledge of it. Then they asked ‘Eisa bin Maryam, and he said: ‘I have been assigned to some tasks before it happens.’ As for as when it will take place, no one knows that except Allah. Then he mentioned Dajjal and said: ‘I will descend and kill him, then the people will return to their own lands and will be confronted with Gog and Magog people, who will:
“swoop down from every mound.”[21:96]
They will not pass by any water but they will drink it, (and they will not pass) by anything but they will spoil it. They (the people) will beseech Allah, and I will pray to Allah to kill them. The earth will be filled with their stench and (the people) will beseech Allah and I will pray to Allah, then the sky will send down rain that will carry them and throw them in the sea. Then the mountains will turn to dust and the earth will be stretched out like a hide. I have been promised that when that happens, the Hour will come upon the people, like a pregnant woman whose family does not know when she will suddenly give birth.'” (One of the narrators) ‘Awwam said: “Confirmation of that is found in the Book of Allah, where Allah says:
“Until, when Gog and Magog people are let loose (from their barrier), and they swoop down from every mound (21:96).”
21.4 Narrated ‘Imran bin Husain (رضي الله عنه)
“We were with the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) on a journey when some of his Companions fell behind. So the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) raised his voice reciting these two Ayat:
“O mankind! Have Taqwa of your Lord! Verily the earthquake of the hour is a terrible thing…” up to His saying: but Allah’s torment is severe (21:1 & 2).”
When his Companions heard that, they hastened to catch up with him, since they knew that he had something to say. He (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) said: ‘Do you know what Day this is? That is the Day when Adam will be called. His Lord will call him and say: O Adam, send forth those who are to be sent to the Fire. He will say: O Lord! How many are to be sent to the Fire? He will say: From every one-thousand there are nine-hundred and ninety-nine for the Fire and one for Paradise. So the people despaired as if they would not smile again. When the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) saw the state of his Companions, he said: ‘Strive hard and receive the good news. By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, you will be counted with two creations who are immense in numbers; Ya’juj and Ma’juj, and those who have died among the progeny of Adam and the progeny of Iblis.'” He said: “So some of the people’s grief went away, and he (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) said: ‘Strive hard and receive the good news. By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad! Among mankind, you are but like the mole on the flank of a camel, or a mark on the foreleg of a beast.'”

21.5 Narrated `Abdullah (رضي الله عنه)
The Suras of Bani Israel, Al-Kahf, Mariyam, Taha and Al-Anbiya are from the very old Suras which I learnt by heart, and they are my first property.
Sahih al-Bukhari Vol. 6, Book 60, Hadith 263
21.6 Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas (رضي الله عنه)
“The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) stood to deliver a Khutbah, he said: ‘O you people! You will be gathered before Allah naked and uncircumcised.’ Then he recited:
‘As We began the first creation, We shall repeat it…’ until the end of the Ayah (21:104).
He said: ‘The first to be clothed on the Day of Resurrection is Ibrahim. Indeed some men from my Ummah will be brought and taken from the left side, so I will say: “My Lord! My followers!” It will be said: “Indeed you do not know what they innovated after you.’ So I shall say as the righteous slave said:
‘And I was a witness over them while I dwelt among them, but when You took me up, You were the Watcher over them. If You punish them, they are your slaves, and if You forgive them…’ [until the end of] the Ayah (5:117 & 118)
I shall be told: ‘These people have not ceased turning on their heels as apostates ever since you parted from them.'”
Jami` at-Tirmidhi Vol. 5, Book 44, Hadith 3167
21.7 Imam Ibn Mardawih, Abu Naeem in Al-Hilya and Ibn Asakir (رحمهم الله) narrated from Hazrat Aamir bin Rabi’a (رضي الله عنه)
That an Arab man visited him so Aamir hosted him nicely and then the man went to meet the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم). The Arab said, “I have sought a valley from the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) which is superior than any other valley in Arabia. I wish to give some portion of it to you which will be beneficial to you and your children.” Aamir replied, “We do not need your property. Today a Surah has been revealed which has made us forget the joys of this world:
اقترب للناس حسابهم وهم في غفلة معرضون
[The time of] their account has approached for the people, while they are in heedlessness turning away. (21:1)
(Hilyat al-Awliya 1/179, Dur al-Manthur)
21.8 Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Sa`d (رضي الله عنه) narrated
From his father, from Sa`d that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم)said: “The supplication of Dhun-Nun (Prophet Yunus) when he supplicated, while in the belly of the whale was:
لا إله إلا أنت سبحانك إني كنت من الظالمين
(Lā ilāha illā anta subḥānaka innī kuntu minaẓ-ẓālimīn)
There is none worthy of worship except You, Glory to You, Indeed, I have been of the transgressors’ (21:87)
So indeed, no Muslim man supplicates with it for anything, ever, except Allah responds to him.”
21.9 Duas
رب لا تذرني فردا وأنت خير الوارثين
My Lord, do not leave me alone [with no heir], while you are the best of inheritors (21:89)
لا إله إلا أنت سبحانك إني كنت من الظالمين
There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers (21:87)
رب احكم بالحق وربنا الرحمن المستعان على ما تصفون
My Lord, judge [between us] in truth. And our Lord is the Most Merciful, the one whose help is sought against that which you describe (12:112)
