Say: I seek refuge with (Allah), the Lord of the daybreak

And

Say: I seek refuge with (Allah) the Lord of mankind

Sunan an-Nasa’i 953

114.2 Narrated `Aisha (رضي الله عنها)

Whenever Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) went to bed, he used to blow on his hands while reciting the Mu’auwidhat ( i.e. Suratal-Falaq 113 and Surat-an-Nas 114) and then pass his hands over his body.

That the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) said: “Some Ayat have been revealed to me the likes of which have not been seen: Qul A’udhu Birabbin-Nas until the end of the Surah and Qul A’udhu Birabbil-Falaq until the end of the Surah.”

Jami` at-Tirmidhi Vol. 5, Book 42, Hadith 2902

Whenever Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) became sick, he would recite Mu’awwidhat (Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas) and then blow his breath over his body. When he became seriously ill, I used to recite (these two Surahs) and rub his hands over his body hoping for its blessings.

Sahih al-Bukhari 5016

114.6 Narrated ‘Aisha (رضي الله عنها)

Whenever the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) went to bed every night, he used to cup his hands together and blow over it after reciting Surat Al-Ikhlas, Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas, and then rub his hands over whatever parts of his body he was able to rub, starting with his head, face and front of his body. He used to do that three times.

Sahih al-Bukhari 5017

114.7 Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) reported

The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) used to seek protection against the evil of jinn and the evil eyes till Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas were revealed. After they were revealed, he took to them for seeking Allah’s protection and left everything besides them.

Riyad as-Salihin Book 9, Hadith 25

It was narrated that ‘Aishah (رضي الله عنها) said“When the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) came to a sick person, he would make supplication for him, and would say:

أَذْهِبِ الْبَاسْ رَبَّ النَّاسْ وَاشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي لاَ شِفَاءَ إِلاَّ شِفَاؤُكَ شِفَاءً لاَ يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا

(Take away the pain, O Lord of mankind, and grant healing, for You are the Healer, and there is no healing but Your healing that leaves no trace of sickness).’”

Sunan Ibn Majah Vol. 4, Book 31, Hadith 3520

It was narrated that ‘Aishah (رضي الله عنها) said

“The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek refuge using the following words:

أَذْهِبِ الْبَاسَ رَبَّ النَّاسِ ‏.‏ وَاشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي لاَ شِفَاءَ إِلاَّ شِفَاؤُكَ شِفَاءً لاَ يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا ‏

(Take away the affliction, O Lord of mankind, and grant healing, for You are the Healer and there is no healing that leaves no sickness).’

When the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) fell sick with the sickness that would be his last, I took his hand and wiped it over his body and recited these words. He withdrew his hand from mine and said:

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالرَّفِيقِ الأَعْلَ

‘O Allah, forgive me and let me meet the exalted companions (i.e., those who occupy high positions in Paradise).’ Those were the last words of his that I heard.”

Sunan Ibn Majah Vol. 1, Book 6, Hadith 1619

It was narrated that Zainab (رضي الله عنها) said

“There was an old woman who used to enter upon us and perform Ruqyah from erysipelas (a contagious disease which causes fever and leaves a red coloration of the skin). We had a bed with long legs, and when ‘Abdullah entered he would clear his throat and make noise. He entered one day and when she heard his voice she veiled herself from him. He came and sat beside me, and touched me, and he found a sting. He said: ‘What is this?’ I said: ‘An amulet against erysipelas.’ He pulled it, broke it and threw it away, and said: ‘The family of ‘Abdullah has no need of polytheism.’ I heard the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) say: “Ruqyah (i.e., which consist of the names of idols and devils etc.), amulets and Tiwalah (charms) are polytheism.’” “I said: ‘I went out one day and so-and-so looked at me, and my eye began to water on the side nearest him. When I recited Ruqyah for it, it stopped, but if I did not recite Ruqyah it watered again.’ He said: ‘That is Satan, if you obey him he leaves you alone but if you disobey him he pokes you with his finger in your eye. But if you do what the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to do, that will be better for you and more effective in healing. Sprinkle water in your eye and say:

أَذْهِبِ الْبَاسْ رَبَّ النَّاسْ اشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي لاَ شِفَاءَ إِلاَّ شِفَاؤُكَ شِفَاءً لاَ يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا

(Take away the pain, O Lord of mankind, and grant healing, for You are the Healer, and there is no healing but Your healing that leaves no trace of sickness).’”

Sunan Ibn Majah Vol. 4, Book 31, Hadith 3530

114.8 It was narrated that ‘Abdul-‘Aziz bin Juraij (رضي الله عنه) said

“We asked ‘Aishah what the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) used to recite in Witr. She said: ‘He used to recite: “Glorify the Name of your Lord the Most High,” [Al-A’la (87)] in the first Rak’ah, ‘Say: “O disbelievers!’” [Al- Kafirun (109)] in the second Rak’ah, and ‘Say: Allah is One’ in the third and the Mu’awwidhatain (Chapters 113, 114).’”

114.15 Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (رحمه الله‎) writes

If the last two Surah of the Holy Quraan, viz Suratul-Falaq and Suratul-Naas are recited for protection against sickness, sorcery (jadu), evil-eye (nazar) etc. one should find it very beneficial. A Taweez of these two Surahs in just as beneficial. Reciting them and blowing on someone is also very effective. If anyone recites them before going to his bed, he will afford security and protection against all calamities.

Reciting the two above mentioned Surahs and blowing on children is very effective in safeguarding them against all sicknesses -including epilepsy.

(Aamal-e-Qurani p41 and p99)
