Q. Assalam alaikum I have a question regarding my job. I had applied in a few places for my job. Now I have many offers. I accepted the first offer and then I got another very good offer. The second offer is much much better than the first one. I accepted the first one and they are in the process of making the visa although I have not yet joined. My question is, is it haram to leave the job offer at this stage that is after accepting the offer and take the second job which is much better ? I would be very grateful if you could help me with this issue. Jazak Allah Khairan. |

Asalam u Alaikum. All Praise is due to Allah.
Whoever seeks the counsel of the Creator will not regret it and whoever seeks the advice of the believers will feel confident about his decisions (Bukhari 7/162).
The Prophet (ﷺ) used to teach us the way of doing Istikhara (Istikhara means to ask Allah to guide one to the right sort of action concerning any job or a deed. You can find it here.
Allah said in the Qur’an,
“And consult them in the affair. Then when you have taken a decision, put your trust in Allah.” (Aal-‘Imran 3:159)
In our humble opinion, if you have not signed/verbally consented any commitment in the terms and conditions of the first job, then you can prefer the one which is more beneficial to you. Otherwise they may ask you to pay some nominal money for leaving as per the company rules. You should talk to their HR officer about that. Whichever job you chose, you should inform the other party at its earliest to benefit other candidates in the waiting list as well as the company.
الحمد لله أوله وآخره
